Nail Fungus Removal

Onychomycosis, better known as “Toe Nail Fungus” is a very common and persistent bacteria that plague’s nearly 35 Million or about 12% of Americans according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

What is toe nail fungus.. Toe nail fungus is a fungal infection in one or more of your nails. An infection with nail fungus may begin as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your fingernail or toe nail. As the nail fungus spreads deeper into your nail, it may cause your nail to discolor, thicken and develop crumbling edges — an unsightly and potentially painful problem.

Recurrent infections are possible, especially if you continue to expose your nails to warm, moist conditions.

Treatment options.... Physicians generally prescribe anti-fungal medications which is taken orally for 6 to 12 weeks. You will notice the results four months after you have completed taking the oral medication. Although, the medication is effective there are many side effects ranging from skin rashes to liver damage. In addition, if you have an underlying health condition you may not be a candidate for these treatments.

Topical lotions, creams and nail lacquer can also used. These treatments usually take up to 12 months. In most cases, using a topical treatment regimen is not successful in curing nail fungus.

For a more severe or painful nail infection your doctor may suggest surgically removing your nail. A new nail will usually grow in its place, though it will come in slowly and may take as long as a year to grow back completely.

An alternate treatment is by using the FDA approved Q-Clear Laser. This virtually painless procedure with no down time is a great alternative to prescription medications. In addition the 1064nm wavelength / Q-switched YAG is safe for all skin types. This safe and effective treatment is done in about 10 minutes. Depending on the severity of the infection, the laser generally can rid the fungus in one treatment. The laser penetrates the toe nail, eliminating the destructive fungus that caused the infection and revitalized your nail as it heals. The results can be seen in as little as 2-4 months depending on how fast your nail grows. You may return to your normal daily routine immediately after your treatment, including painting your nails or pedicure treatment.
